The Institute of Mechanics no longer exists as an organizational unit of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The institute existed from its foundation until 2010. Since then it has been called the Institute for Computational Engineering.

However, the series of publications from the former Institute of Mechanics is being continued in line with tradition and has existed since December 1976, when the series of publications with Issue 1 by the author and institute founder Prof. Dr.-Ing. Theodor Lehmann went to press for the first time.
